Moira Colbourne

Moira Colbourne “Mrs. C” Remembered

The Delta Falcons and the wider field hockey community are saddened by the passing of Moira Colbourne (“Mrs. C”), one of the true architects of our sport in British Columbia. Among the many lives she touched are those of her daughter, Marg Colbourne, a former Delta Falcon, and Barb Hodges, a current Falcon. Through family, friends, players, coaches, and clubs across the province, Mrs. C’s remarkable legacy continues to inspire generations of field hockey athletes.

An outstanding player, coach, umpire, administrator, and builder, Moira Colbourne dedicated her life to growing the game and creating opportunities for generations of athletes. She was awarded the Watson Trophy in 1968, captained BC to gold at the 1969 Canada Summer Games, and later built an extraordinary legacy off the field.

Moira founded the Burnaby Women’s Field Hockey Association in 1969, helped establish associations throughout the Lower Mainland, introduced field hockey into Burnaby schools, and spent 29 years as head coach of the Simon Fraser University women’s field hockey team. Her contributions were recognized with induction into the BC Sports Hall of Fame, Burnaby Sports Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Field Hockey Hall of Fame.

We salute you, Mrs. C. Thank you for your vision, leadership, and lifelong dedication to field hockey. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.

You will be deeply missed and never forgotten.

Sticks Down. 🏑❤️
